The general purpose of the Mediterranean Institute for the Study & Education in the Prevention & Treatment of Infections is the continuous and systematic mutual updating and training of scientists (medical doctors, microbiologists, biologists, pharmacists, nurses) with specialization, involvement, and interest in the developments in the prevention, treatment, and research of infections in Greece and Cyprus, and more generally in the Mediterranean Basin, as well as informing the public about medical advancements in this field.

The primary means by which this goal is achieved is the organization of conferences, seminars, lectures, public discussions, postgraduate courses, and other scientific communication events, either independently or in collaboration with other Greek and Cypriot or foreign national or international scientific societies. The aim of these events is the continuous improvement of the scientific level and mutual information of the members of the scientific association and the information of the public.
